I have lost count of the amounts I have done this particular trip…and vice versa. I have lived in Croatia for well over a decade and thinking about it I reckon most of my journeys between Zagreb and Novalja have actually been by bus! 

Yes, I have a car but I actually find it easier  travelling to Novalja by simply jumping on the bus at Novalja, relax for a few hours, do some work on the bus,  and then not have to worry about motorway tolls, parking in Zagreb, the crazy city driving and, at the same time, it is all very affordable. 

On the other hand, I have also driven a lot of times down the A1 to Zagreb and that has always been pretty straight forward too. Tiring but worth it as well.
