Even though I live down in Novalja I always seem to spend a great deal of time in Zagreb. I think anyone who lives in Croatia is naturally drawn here as it is the biggest city in Croatia, the capital, and it certainly has the most to do, It really is the heartbeat of Croatia.
I tend to find that many of my close friends from the summer travel back to Zagreb from Novalja after the summer season finishes so I often myself taking the easy drive up the A1 to visit them - and also take advantage of the huge things to do.

Be careful of the bars there, I once went there *before the toddlers), had a rakija (or 10) and leave the street until the nearly house and had a 36 hour hangover! Not the best.
