Uber In Croatia (and Some Tips on How to Use The Uber App)

Posted in   Uncategorized   Updated on July 10, 2023    By Dexter Jones

Getting around in Croatia using taxis can be a bit of a minefield if you donโ€™t know what you are doing. Sometimes you get some unscrupulous drivers charging way more than they should, and they might take you on a longer route to increase the fare charge.

Luckily, there's another popular taxi option that you can rely on, and that is Uber in Croatia

Uber came to Croatia in 2015, and it's been getting more and more popular ever since. With this famous app, you can get where you need to go without risking being ripped off or taking the long way around by a dodgy cabbie!

Local taxi drivers in Croatia aren't massive fans of Uber. They really don't like the service, for obvious reasons, and have even tried to get it shut down.

But for short rides, Uber is a top option.

If you're looking for longer rides or airport transfers, we recommend a professional transfer service.

Since its launch, Uber Croatia has gathered over 5000 drivers (there are 2000 in Zagreb alone), and that number is increasing year on year.

Uber is not available everywhere in Croatia just yet. But the wait time for an Uber in places where it does operate is not too long.

Even though Uber does not operate over the whole country, it's still going from strength to strength.

They have over 200,000+ (and climbing daily) registered local users, and during the summer months, thousands of tourists (who naturally use Uber in their home countries)  hop on board too.

So, if you're in Croatia, give Uber a try and enjoy a hassle-free ride.

Where Does Uber in Croatia Cover

As I  said before Uber doesn't cover the entire country just yet. But don't worry, it's available in the main tourist cities.

You can find Uber operating in places like Zagreb, Zadar, Split, ล ibenik, and Dubrovnik.

Also, you might want to check out UberSelect. It lets you choose a bigger and more comfortable vehicle if you need one, like if you're traveling with a big group or family.

Just keep in mind that it will generally cost a little bit more, but it definitely worth it for the extra space and comfort.

How Does Uber Work in Croatia

If you are a newbie, don't worry - it's โ€˜SUBERโ€™ easy! (Did you see what I did then?)

First, you download the Uber app on your device. You then create a new account. Next, you link a credit card or your existing PayPal account to pay for your rides.

That means you don't have to use physical cash or worry about converting currency to euros.

The most attractive thing about Uber is that the rides are usually cheaper than taxis, which can be quite expensive and you can risk finding a rogue taxi driver that will try and take advantage

Let's talk about the cost of Uber in Croatia.

  • From Zadar Airport to the City Centre: 15 euros
  • From Split Airport to the City Centre: 25 euros
  • From Zagreb Airport to the City Centre: 12 euro

If you're traveling within cities, there's a fixed starting fare of 1 euro, no matter where you're going.

After that, it's an additional 0.5 euros per kilometer. The minimum fare for an Uber ride is 1.5 euros.

If you choose the UberSelect service, it will cost a bit moreโ€”0.6 euros per kilometer on top of the starting fare. So itโ€™s not a huge increase.

Even though some taxi drivers may not like it, most locals and tourists actually find it a refreshing change and that it is a really convenient way of getting around.

Uber has certainly really changed the way people travel in Croatia.
